Central America

The first pictures are from a smallish cave just outside Flores, Guatemala. The first is of a small hole with about a half dozen bats in it. Much to Susan's joy, when my flash went off they all flew out directly at us. It was great. The other is of a fat sweaty Guatemalan cooling off. Proving once and for all, not all of god's creatures are beautiful.
The rest of the pictures are from the Mayan ruins of Tikal. According to the literature, in recent years at least two tourists have fallen down the stairs of the temples to their deaths. I brought extra film, but was greatly dissapointed. The green mound, is what the temples look like half excavated.
Since the actual temple stairs are in questionable shape, they've build wooden ones next to them for the tourists. Frankly I think the stone is safer. Walking on raised walkways near the crocodile lagoon (couldn't find any) I broke through the slats in about four places. Susan more than got even for the fat jokes when her bike chain broke.
Spider monkeys. They dropped half eaten seeds on us. Better than feces I suppose. The local wild turkey are pretty crazy too.
